The Seventh Disaster Management Trainers’ Training Camp for State Level D.M Trainers was conducted on 13th and 14th of February 2016 at the Samithy Hall, Pudupariyaram, in Palakkad district. The Camp was very significant as it also saw the launch of the Mahila DM Wing “DM- Shakthi” in Kerala State.

31 participants attended the Camp full time. Of this, 13 were Mahilas. We have spotted training talent in 5 gents and three Mahilas and they will be given more exposure in future. Smt Sheesa Sajith, wife of Sri Sajith, DIC – Kannur District, assisted and guided the Mahilas during the practical classes, especially the session on Knots. Incidentally, she is a Kalari (Martial arts) expert.

Other Classes, practical and theory, were handled by the identified State Level D.M Trainers in Malayalam. Water rescue exercises were conducted only for Gents in the temple pond. Under the watchful eyes of Smt Sheesa Sajith, the Mahilas were given the opportunity of handling the building exercise in full.

Feedback, as usual, was very good.

DM- DIC Sri Ravi Shankar spoke. He outlined the future activities the trainees had to take up in DM, including regular refreshers at the District level. He also mentioned the efforts put in by the DP Sri Suresh and Sri Prasanth in making the Camp a reality. Special mention was made of the unstinted support by the SVP, Sri A M Prabhakaran in strengthening the DM Programme. Sri Gopakumar, Dt Youth in charge then spoke, mentioning the possibilities of DM. The Camp came to an auspicious end with the District President offering the Aarathi.

No amount of appreciation would be sufficient to extol the role of members of the Pudupariyaram Samithy for their contribution to the success of the Camp. From creating the right ambiance to supplying the materials and providing simple but wholesome food punctually, their role may not have been seen much, but was tremendous in its impact.
